Why is sanding my gym floor important?
Maintaining a well-cared-for gym floor is crucial for the safety and performance of your athletes. Sanding is an essential process in the overall gym floor maintenance routine, as it helps to revive the surface and restore its optimal condition. By sanding your gym floor, you can address a variety of issues that can arise over time, such as uneven wear, discoloration, and the buildup of dirt, grime, and old finishes.
Sanding your gym floor serves several important purposes. First and foremost, it helps to create a smooth, level surface that is safe for athletes to perform on. Over time, high-traffic areas of the gym floor can become worn down, leading to uneven surfaces that can increase the risk of injury. Sanding helps to even out these irregularities, providing a consistent and stable platform for your athletes to move and train on.
In addition to improving safety, sanding also enhances the overall aesthetic of your gym floor. As the floor is subjected to constant use and exposure to various elements, it can become discolored, scratched, or stained. Sanding removes these imperfections, revealing the natural beauty of the underlying wood or synthetic material. This not only improves the appearance of your gym but also helps to create a more inviting and professional atmosphere for your students and visitors.
When should I sand my gym floor?
Sanding and finishing your gym floor every 8-10 years is a necessary maintenance requirement as it helps restore the original luster in your gym surface, boosts the life expectancy of your hard surface, and increases the overall performance of your wood floor.
It is recommended that you sand and refinish your gym floor when there are visible patches, as the ambers over time change the color and overall look of your floor. When you install new wood in a patch job fashion that new wood appears to be brighter and blonder than the original flooring. If you want the gym floor to look uniform the entire floor must be sanded once the patch is complete.

Signs that your gym floor needs sanding
Recognizing the signs that your gym floor needs sanding is crucial for maintaining its longevity and ensuring the safety of your athletes. By being proactive and addressing issues early on, you can avoid more extensive and costly repairs down the line.
One of the most obvious signs that your gym floor needs sanding is the presence of significant wear and tear. If you notice that certain areas of the floor are significantly more worn down than others, it may be time to consider sanding. This uneven wear can be caused by heavy foot traffic, the movement of heavy equipment, or the accumulation of dirt and debris over time.
Another sign that your gym floor needs sanding is the appearance of discoloration or fading. Over time, the finish on your gym floor can become dull, yellowed, or unevenly faded, detracting from the overall aesthetic of your space. This can be a result of exposure to sunlight, moisture, or the use of harsh cleaning products. Sanding can help to remove the damaged finish and restore the original color and luster of your gym floor.
In addition to visible signs of wear and tear, you may also notice that your gym floor has become increasingly difficult to clean and maintain. If you find that dirt, dust, and grime are accumulating more quickly than usual, it may be an indication that the surface has become too rough or porous for effective cleaning. Sanding can help to smooth out the surface and make it easier to keep your gym floor looking its best.
If your gym floor is experiencing any of these issues it might be time to consider our gym floor sanding and refinishing services.

How long does the sanding gym floors process take?
Now that you’ve made the commitment to sand and refinish your gym floor you might be wondering how long this process takes.
A typical sand and finish job will take anywhere from 2-3 weeks to complete depending on the size of your gym floor. It will take 3-4 days to sand the gym floor down to bare wood. Then we will apply two coats of water based sealer, it will take one day with a dry time of 24 hours. If you are staining areas like the three point arcs, we will do this at the time the sealer goes down.
Once everything has dried and sealed it’s time to paint. Depending on the amount of detail going into your floor, including lines, logos, borders, etc..the painting process will take 2–4 days. After the paint dries for 24 hours then we will abrade it and put down two coats of water based polyurethane finish with a dry time of 4-6 hours.
After the finish has been applied and cured your gym floor will be playable and ready to use within 48-hours.
