steps For Screening and Recoating A Gym Floor

1. Dust mop the floor The first step to screen and recoat, we use a dust mop to clean the entire gym floor from one end to the other. This will remove any loose dirt and dust that is on the floor. At the same time we will be looking for things like gum and stuck on material. using a scraper we will remove these items from the floor.

2. Scrub The floor The next step we do is to scrub the floor. Using a detergent approved by the Maple Wood Flooring Manufactures Association MFMA. We use IFT and Squeaky from Basic Coatings. Intense Floor Treatment is designed for deep cleaning to remove oils and stuck spills other stains. We use a walk behind scrubber and scrub the entire gym floor surface. We follow up with the same machine using Basic Coatings, squeaky Cleaner to remove any of the IFT residue. Then either with a tack towel or an auto scrubber to rinse the floor clean of any remaining soaps.

3. Abrade The Floor I abrade my gym floor using 180 grit screens attached to the Hydra Sand multi disk drive plate, on a heavy buffer with vacuum assist. I screen the floor carefully until all of the shine is gone, to ensure a good mechanical bond between the existing layer of finish and the new layer going down.

4. Vacuum and Tack The Floor Next it is time for another thorough cleaning to remove any and all of the remaining dust left on the floor. We will vacuum the entire floor and then tack it and rinse with a towel or and auto scrubber until the surface is as clean as it can be.

5. Perimeter Clean As a final measure in the cleaning process, we go around the perimeter of the room with a damp towel and make sure all of the edges and corners are clean and free of dust.

6. HVAC Off Before any finishes go down, it is a good idea to turn of the HVAC system. This should actually be done before any work begins.

6. Apply Finish Finely finish can go down. In Colorado we are restricted to mostly water base finishes. We will apply 2 coats of water base polyurethane finish to your gym floor. they typically dry in 24 to 48 hours, your gym floor is ready to play.
